The first physical edition of our [PLAYGROUND] series took place on December 19th, and although a month has passed, that night still lingers in my mind. An evening where we shared a space to showcase art, music, and most importantly, to bring the community together. This feels like the right moment to look back for those who couldn’t make it (you missed out, hihi jk) and for everyone who was there and wants to relive it once more.
From the moment you stepped into BAR KRAP, the room felt alive. The kind of alive where you’d walk away from one conversation only to bump into someone else two seconds later.
Every corner of the room held a familiar face, a new introduction, and an inspiring exchange of conversation. I found myself constantly looking around, something that once lived in our heads was happening right in front of us. It was impossible not to feel proud, especially hearing people talk about how everything came together. Shoutout Angelo, Dilan, Femke, Jadah, Richard, Yusoff, Nathan, Terrence for curating and setting up together.
Upstairs, !nth3fl3sh created an installation inspired by the idea of an altar, a prayer space centered around their reimagined Mother Mary, Partegonesia. The original intention of the installation was to allow people to light candles, but within the limitations of the space, the altar took on a more minimal form. Even so, its presence remained grounding, providing a peaceful contrast to the movement of the night.
Printed images of the magazine were all over the room. There was a nostalgic feeling carried through with the old Macs: one looping music videos recorded by and from TEENAGEFEVERDREAMS and if you caught it there were some shitposts slipping in there, the other allowing visitors to sign up in real time to our ABCSSS database. Across the room, Pushicaya showcased his upcycled hat collection ‘PECHI VOLUME.1’ alongside our merch and printed magazines.
The night opened with live performances by LUDWELLA accompanied by NIRO on the guitar, setting an intimate and gentle tone for the evening. LUDWELLA is an Aruban singer-songwriter who blends elements of R&B, Pop-Rock and Dream Pop with the nostalgia of her Caribbean upbringing, creating a space that felt both reflective and familiar. Alongside a few covers, she shared unreleased songs from her upcoming EP ‘A Collection of Dreams’. One of the songs she teased was ‘Un Biaha Mas’, now available on streaming platforms, a song about the people, places, and moments that are hard to let go of. It was a refreshing start to the night, grounding the room before the energy slowly began to escalate.
THE REVOIR is an alt rock / shoegaze band formed in Aruba and, holy moly, I stood from a distance and they had the whole crowd going crazy. People jumping, singing, losing themselves completely. At one point, a phone flew into the moshpit and, someway somehow, that moment perfectly captured the chaos and beauty of it all. It was very moving to see everyone be so immersed and connected to the music, culture felt very alive in that moment, and it made me think how the potential of the upcoming generation is undeniable, to say the least.
Then came the moment ROZALY started playing and it was an immediate shift. As a sonic practitioner, curator, researcher and DJ from Curaçao. His set brought everyone back on the island with some underated/underappreciated Hip Hop and Caribbean rhythms. Everyone’s face had a look of recognition mixed with curiosity. His sound felt familiar, like a memory you didn’t realize you had.
The night reached its peak with tamacoochies and Chucho’s B2B. tamacoochies is an Aruban DJ rooted in Caribbean and Latin club sounds, the set leaned into high-bpm rhythms and bouncy selections that kept the crowd moving without stopping a single time. This B2B marked the first time the two played together.
Chucho, originally from Curaçao, has only recently stepped into the world of DJing. Known mainly for producing ambient music and curating radio shows by the music he gravitates toward each season, his selection proved just how well his ear translates across tempos and spaces. By the end, the room was echoing, the people were not willing to let the night end. It was a very fitting closing to a night built on experimentation.
Infinite thanks to BAR KRAP for having us and to everyone who showed up thank you for buying a magazine, sharing words of encouragement, believing in us, and creating alongside us.
Shout out to THE REVOIR and their friends for helping us set up the stage and sound.
This was our rebirth, and we can’t wait to have you back at our next event.
